FORT PIERCE, FL- The Indian River State College Pioneers volleyball team experienced a week of highs and lows during their two conference matches in the first week of October. The Pioneers fought hard but fell to St. Petersburg College in a closely contested four-set match on Friday, October 4th. Despite a valiant effort, they lost with set scores of 16-25, 24-26, 25-20, and 26-28. After losing the first two sets, the Pioneers surged back to take the third set, but St. Pete narrowly sealed the match in the fourth, ending a nail-biting final set.
One day later, the Pioneers rebounded with a gritty performance, securing a 3-1 victory over Pasco-Hernando State College on Saturday, October 5th. The River came out strong, winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-20. Although they faltered in the third, losing 12-25, the Pioneers regrouped in the fourth set, edging out Pasco 26-24 to claim the match.
With these results, the Pioneers continue their fight through the conference season, and while the loss to St. Pete was tough, their resilience shone through in the Pasco game. The River is 10-7 overall and 6-5 in conference.
Due to Hurricane Milton, all matches scheduled for the week of October 7-13 were canceled, including key conference games. The Pioneers now look forward to their next match, scheduled for Thursday, October 17th, against South Florida State College. In addition, the evening will also serve as the team's Sophomore Night, honoring the second-year players for their contributions to the program.
