Pioneers Drop First Conference Match Against Pasco-Hernando
NEW PORT RICHEY, FL- Indian River State College hit the road for their first conference matchup of the 2024 season, facing off against Pasco-Hernando State College on Wednesday, September 4th. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Pioneers fell in three close sets (20-25, 20-25, 22-25), marking their first loss of the season.
The match was a fierce contest from start to finish, with both teams battling point-for-point through each set. In the first set, the Pioneers and Pasco-Hernando were neck-and-neck, tying the score multiple times until reaching 18-18. However, a few late errors and a strong finish by Pasco-Hernando allowed them to pull away and claim the set 25-20.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with both teams refusing to give ground. The score remained tight once again, tying at 19-19 after some critical rallies. Despite the Pioneers' best efforts, Pasco-Hernando capitalized on key points in the final stretch to close out the set, 25-20.
IRSC fought their hardest in the third set, making a determined push to stay alive in the match. After a back-and-forth battle that saw both teams tied at 22-22, Pasco-Hernando managed to secure the last three points, handing the Pioneers a 25-22 defeat and sealing the match.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they head back on the road for their next match against the State College of Florida (SCF) on Friday, September 6th.
