Melton Signs with Memphis

FORT PIERCE, FL - After two seasons with the Indian River State College Pioneers, Sophomore, Olivia Melton, will be headed to the birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll in Tennessee after signing her National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Memphis next season.

Melton, an outside hitter from Fort Smith, Arkansas, put together quite a two-year resume with the Pioneers. As a sophomore, Melton averaged 2.68 kills per set and led the team in both total kills, 196, as well as points per set, 3.0. Academically, Melton graduated with her Associate of Arts degree December 15, allowing her to join the Tigers a semester early.

Melton was the first player to sign with the Pioneers under Head Coach, Jordan Bickett. When asked about Melton, Bickett said, "We are so proud of Olivia. She came to our program and worked hard. She has improved tremendously since committing to us two years ago. Olivia will be missed and will represent the Pioneer family well. We wish her the best of luck and are excited to watch her at the next level!"

Melton will join a rebuilding Tiger squad coming off of a 11-20 campaign in 2023, but put up a competitive 7-12 record in American Athletic Conference play.

Melton is the first 2023 Pioneer to sign to the next level.  A number of other players have been on official visits and are expected to make their decisions soon, so stay tuned to IndianRiverStateAthletics.com for the latest updates.
