IRSC volleyball challenged Polk State in last home match of the season.

Wednesday, October 18th, Indian River volleyball rallies from a 2-0 deficit as they pushed a decisive fifth set against the Eagles in their last home match of the season. Unfortunately, the Pioneers fell short (13-25, 14-25, 25-17, 25-22, 13-15) but it was an incredible ending to the home game season.

Polk State kicked off the first set by going on a huge 12-2 run and took the lead over the Pioneers fast. Indian River battled back but could not close the giant gap as the Eagles took set one 13-25.

In the second set, the Eagles continued to ride the momentum from the first set as they took an early two-point lead at 5-7. From here, the Pioneers fought hard to string points together, but the Eagles had other plans as they closed out set two 14-25.

Down 2-0 on the match, the Pioneers came out quick going on an 8-point run to go up by six, 10-4. Indian River continued to make a big push as they went on another 5-point run shortly after, 15-6. The River ended up sealing set three 25-17.

In the fourth set, the Pioneers and the Eagles traded points back and forth until IRSC took a three-point lead at 11-8. The Eagles fought back but Indian River continued to stay one step ahead until the end of the set. Things got tight with a tied score of 20-20. Battling point for point, a sideout kill from Sophomore outside, Olivia Melton and a kill from Freshman outside, Katejion Robinson helped the Pioneers take the lead by two, 24-22. The River closed out set four 25-22, tying the match 2-2. 

In the fifth, the Pioneers took an early lead at 5-2 but the Eagles bounced back tying the score at 5-5. Both teams continued to trade points back and forth all the way to the very end. Unfortunately, the Pioneers could not hold on and the Eagles closed out set five 13-15 and won 3-2 on the match.

After the match, Indian River volleyball recognized and honored Saray Rios, Valeria Ivanova, Franziska Kopold, Zuzanna Rut, Olivia Melton, and Stella Lukaszuk as the six Sophomores on the team and their accomplishments.

The Pioneers will hit the road for their next match on Saturday, October 21st at Daytona State College. First serve is at 2:00pm.
