IRSC Volleyball Defeats Nationally Ranked Daytona State

IRSC Volleyball Defeats Nationally Ranked Daytona State

This Thursday was the IRSC "PINK OUT" night to commemorate and honor all of the brave women that have fought and fallen to breast cancer, and help raise money for breast cancer research. After a heartbreaking loss on Tuesday in five sets against Miami-Dade, the Pioneers would look to bounce back against the Falcons of Daytona State. Daytona beat the Pioneers in three in their first meeting up in Daytona, and the Pioneers want payback.

The first set would begin and you could tell this was going to be a tightly contested match from the very first point. The set would go back and forth with neither team gaining a lead of more than a couple at any point. The Pioneers would have an opportunity at 25-24 to take the first set, but they were unable to finish as Daytona would make some plays and take the first 27-25. The Pioneers were not about to let what happened on Tuesday, happen again. They came out firing in the next set and wouldn't let up as they would hold off Daytona and take sets two and three with scores of 26-24 and 25-23. Moving into the fourth set, you could tell the length of the match was taking a toll as the Pioneers were starting to slow. The falcons sensed this and didn't hesitate to jump on them, ultimately taking the fourth set. Onto the 5th set, and the crowded Pioneer gym didn't want to see another heartbreaker like Tuesday. The Pioneers delivered.  IRSC came out playing as hard as they could, bodies flying everywhere, and it paid off with a 15-10 win in the 5th, and a victory over #15 in the nation, Daytona State College.

The Pioneers will play their final home match on Saturday against Hillsborough Community College.
