IRSC Pioneers Sweeps Morton College

IRSC Pioneers Sweeps Morton College

After almost a full week of rest since their last match, the Indian River Volleyball team came out full of energy and ready to go. The River would face an out of state opponent, Morton College, making it their first non-conference match since opening weekend. They would hope to continue their winning streak dating back to last week.

The match began with a bit of back and forth play, but it did not take long before IRSC began taking control of the set and built a lead. The separation only increased as the game progressed, jumping out to an 18-11 lead, before Sophomore Mallory Roney (10 Kills, 6 Aces) would all but close the game out with four straight Aces. The River would take the first set 25-13.

Into set two and the River would start hot again, opening up with a 6-1 lead behind the serving of Irene Verdino (5 Kills, 2 Aces). Shortly after, Elise Llorens (5 Aces) took her opportunity at the line to rack up two aces of her own, pushing the lead even further and maintaining it all the way through the end of the 2nd set, 25-12.

The third and final set would not differ very much from the first two, as the River jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Morton would struggle to find the court from the offensive side and the errors added up quickly. IRSC took advantage and rattled off a few more aces as the sprinted to a three set finish, winning the last set 25-12.

Sophomore Middle Blocker Samantha Dibene had a great game, hitting 0.556 and adding 2 blocks on the afternoon. Today's win was truly a full team effort.

River Volleyball has their next match on Saturday, September 18th, at 2PM, located at the IRSC Massey Campus. This is a conference match against Eastern Florida State College
