River Drops First Conference Match on the Road

River Drops First Conference Match on the Road

On Saturday, September 4th, the River took to the road for their 2nd conference match of the year against Hillsborough Community College. The River would enter this match sitting at 1-5 on the year and 1-0 in the Suncoast conference, meaning a win against Hillsborough could be huge.

The River took the court against the recently out of quarantined Hawks hoping to upset a top 20 nationally ranked team. The hawks had a different plan though, operating very efficiently and making very few mistakes out of the gate. HCC would take the first set 15-25. The River bounce back quickly in set two, taking an aggressive command of the service line, winning the second set with the largest spread of the day 25-13. More adjustments would be made on the Hawks side as they began making some substitutions heading into the third set. Ultimately the Hawks were just too on their game and they defeated Indian River in four sets, winning the last two 25-16, 25-15.

The River was led by top performers Greta Klotz (14 Kills, 5 Digs), Jasmine Sayre (21 Digs), Mallory Roney (8 Kills, 12 Digs) and Jeyhlen Thomas (7 Kills, 3 Blocks)

This loss drops the River to 1-1 in conference and their next match is on the road at 6pm against State College of Florida
