INDIAN RIVER VOLLEYBALL TEAM WINS 2019 FCSAA FEMALE ACADEMIC TEAM OF THE YEAR HONOR

Tuesday, May 21 was a historical day for the Indian River State College Athletic Department. For the first time in the history of the athletic department, a team won the highest academic honor given by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and Council for Athletic Affairs (CAA). IRSC's volleyball program was named the 2019 FCSAA Female Academic Team of the Year. The honor is bestowed to only one female athletic program annually.

Nominations for the honor come forward from individual Region VIII member colleges and are vetted by the CAA Executive Council to determine the winning program.

Over the course of the 18/19 academic year, the fifteen team members combined for a 3.47 Grade Point Average and saw 100% of the sophomore class complete their Associate in Arts degree requirements for graduation from the college.

Team members earning this honor include: Brittany Beckelheimer, Valentina Beltran, Jada Bivins, Erin Ergle, Jenna Erwin, Lindsay Glynn, Ayannah Henry, Caitlyn Leadabrand, Taylor Leander, Sydney Oglesby, Essi Penttinen, Flavia Rusterholz, Jacki Schmitz, Rebecca Sills and McKenna Tyson. The team is coached by Stephanie Skidmore, Head Coach, and Tony Glessner, Assistant Coach.
