National Record Highlights Victory for Indian River

FORT PIERCE, FL- During dual meet action with Ave Maria University, a new NJCAA national record was set by Oliver Nell, who clocked an impressive time of 21.67 in the backstroke leg of the men's winning 200 medley relay. Nell teamed up with Kito Campbell, Thomas Ferguson, and Riccardo Pandin to secure the victory. His record-breaking time surpassed the previous 50 backstroke record of 21.76, set in 2023. Recently, Nell also set the 50 butterfly record and contributed to the 200 medley relay record established in November 2024. 

Nell continued his dominance by winning individual events in the 100 back and 100 free, and he was part of the victorious 200 free relay alongside Riccardo Pandin, Felipe Costa, and Thomas Ferguson. Other standout performances on the men's side included Knut Robinson (100 and 500 free), Elliot Weisel (200 free and 200 fly), Kito Campbell (100 breast), Pandin (50 free), Gabriel Morales (200 back and 100 fly), Marcus Johnson (200 breast), and Anderson Brown (400 IM).

On the women's side, IRSC captured victories in 13 of the 14 events contested. The 200 medley relay team of Nika Tomic, Ana Villamil, Sophia Kogelshatz, and Sara Safranko led the charge. Individual event winners included Paola Gonzalez (1000 free), Aurora Zanin (200/500 free and 400 IM), Daniela Perez (100/200 breast), Adriana Roldan (200 fly), Ana Villamil (50 free), Nika Tomic (100 free), Emelie Ek Warn (200 back), and Sophia Kogelshatz (100 fly). The 200 free relay team of Safranko, Tomic, Kogelshatz, and Villamil capped off the women's successes.

Indian River teams will next compete in the Craigie Invitational, scheduled for February 7–9, 2025.
