Women’s Basketball Wins OT Thriller

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College (IRSC) Women's Basketball program defeated Florida Southwestern (FSW) 89 – 86 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers and the Bucs went back and forth for majority of the game, as both teams went into halftime tied 42 – 42. In the third quarter, FSW went on a run before the Pioneers responded with a run of their own, going into fourth quarter up by two points.

Prior to the game, the six sophomores for the Pioneers were recognized for their accomplishments during their time at The River. Four of the six sophomores finished the game with double digits, led by point guard D'yanna Maxey who tallied 25 points and three rebounds, Kailyn Peters added 24 points and three rebounds, Brialle Washington contributed 19 points all while JaMya Robinson scored 10 points and six rebounds.

"I thought today we honored our sophomores with a win by competing for the full 45 minutes. Being able to finish the game with a defensive stop shows the toughness and togetherness we have been playing with as we close out the season," Coach Robinson noted.

With the win the Pioneers are 18 – 11 overall and 12 – 8 in Citrus Conference play.

The River hits the road next week to the FCSAA Region VIII Tournament in Niceville, FL.
