Indian River Pioneers Erase Double Digit Deficit in Comeback Win

TAMPA, FL - Indian River State College Women's Basketball overcame a double digit first quarter deficit to win 69-63 over Hillsborough Community College on Wednesday evening.

HCC started the game clicking on all cylinders outscoring the Pioneers 20 – 5 in the first quarter. The Pioneers began to settle down in the second quarter outscoring the Hawks 17 – 12. Sophomore JaMya Robinson led the Pioneers in their comeback scoring eight of her 22 points in the second quarter.

The Pioneers cut the led to seven, seconds before the officials called a shooting foul that pushed the Hawks led back to 10 points at the half. Coming out of the locker rooms, the momentum begins to shift towards The River when Kailyn Peters hit a big three late in the third.

In the fourth quarter, the Pioneers began to click on all cylinders outscoring the Hawks 26 – 12. The Pioneers had three players in double digits; JaMya Robinson had a career night scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds, Jordan Boddie added 15 points and Kailyn Peters contributed 10 points. The bench production was key for the Pioneers as they tallied 29 points.

With the win, the Pioneers are 16 – 11 overall and 10 – 8 in Citrus Conference play. IRSC Women's Basketball will travel back to west coast Saturday, February 24 to play Saint Petersburg College in a third round matchup with a 2:00pm tip off.
