Women’s Basketball Defeated at Home

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River women's basketball suffered their first home loss of 2023 season against Hillsborough Community College. This is the second time the Hawks and the Pioneers have gone head to head. In the first matchup, the Pioneers defeated the Hawks 73 – 61. This time, the Pioneers started the game off slow allowing the Hawks to take an early 11-2 lead, they would fight back but could never overcome Hillsborough's momentum.

"We did not come out ready to compete for 40 minutes tonight and that hurt us. In order to compete for championships, we have to show up each night," Coach Robinson noted.

Hillsborough earned their fourth Citrus Conference win defeating the Pioneers 70 – 58.

Brialle Washington led the Pioneers with 17 points, four steals and two rebounds. Elesi Simmons contributed 13 points and six rebounds. Kailyn Peters tallied 10 points and four rebounds. Jamya Robinson grabbed 10 rebounds and eight points.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday, January 23 at home against Saint Petersburg College. Tip-off is set for 5:00pm. At half time of the game, Indian River Athletic Department will recognize the student athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA in the Fall semester of 2023. They will also award the Skull Award, the athletic team with the highest team GPA, afterwards.
