Cold Shooting Night Dooms Women’s Basketball

MELBOURNE, FL- The Indian River women's basketball team traveled to Eastern Florida for a Citrus Conference matchup. In the first quarter both teams were off to a slow start, Eastern entered second quarter up by two points 11–9. Throughout the night the Pioneers struggled to make crucial layups and free-throws resulting to Eastern winning 66 -60.

"In conference play we have to be efficient and tonight we failed to do so. We missed a lot of layups in the first half which could have changed the trajectory of the game if those had gone in. We will learn from this and continue to get better," Coach Robinson noted.

The Pioneers shot a season low of 45% from the free throw line, missing 11 total free-throws. The struggles were not only at the free throw line it was also from beyond the arc as the Pioneers shot a 22% from 3pt line.

Despite the struggles, the Pioneers had four players in double digits. Kailyn Peters tallied 17 points and four rebounds while Jordan Boddie added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. JaMya Robinson tallied another double double scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and Elesi Simmons came off the bench and added 12 points and five rebounds.

The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday January 20th at home against Hillsborough Community College, tip off 2:00 pm.
