Women's Basketball Wins Conference Opener

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River women's basketball opened their first round of conference play against Santa Fe College on Saturday, December 9. In the first quarter, the Pioneers continue to start the game off slow causing for Santa Fe to take an early 14 – 4 lead halfway through the first quarter. The tables begin to turn for the Pioneers when Freshmen Guard Jordan Boddie drain a 3-pointer shorting the lead to 14 – 8. Indian River would go on a 12 – 0 run closing out the 1st quarter with the lead, 20 – 14.  

In the second quarter, The Saints made several runs but could not pull closer than 3 points. Brialle Washington scored 9 of the Pioneers 18 points in the second allowing IRSC to go into halftime up 38 – 32.

In the third and fourth quarter, Indian River outscored the Saints 43 – 30 which would allow the Pioneers to earn their first conference win; defeating Santa Fe 81 – 62.

The Pioneers had four players in double digits led by Sophomore guard Brialle Washington who contributed 27 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Mo'Nique Joseph notched her first double double scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Peaks added 11 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Jordan Boddie and Kailyn Peters came off the bench and contributed 10 points apiece.

The Pioneers will be back in action at home on Monday, December 11th against Hillsborough Community College 5:00pm tip off.
