Women’s Basketball Splits at Pensacola Thanksgiving Classic

Friday Afternoon in Pensacola, FL Indian River State College competed against #9 Pensacola in a highly contested matchup. In the first quarter Pensacola jumped out to a 14 – 4 led before the River settled down, going into the second quarter down 21-15. In the second quarter, the Pioneers outscored the Pirates 15 to 12, going into halftime down by 3 points.

In the second half, both teams battled to the end. The Pioneers would suffer their third lost of the season falling to #9 Pirates 65-62. "Tonight, our slow start and key mistakes late caused us to lose this one, overall I am proud of the direction we are heading in and I believe if we can play at this level consistently we will be hard to beat in conference play" Coach Robinson noted.

Sophomore Guard Brialle Washington led the River in scoring contributing 14 points. Freshmen Jordan Boddie continues to be a consistent scorer for the River tallying 11 points, four steals and three rebounds. Jamya Robinson added 8 points and seven rebounds.

In the second matchup against Bishop State, the Pioneers took the led early and never looked back defeating Bishop 74-64.

Sophomore combo guard Jasmine Peaks led all scorers, contributing 23 points, five rebounds and two assists. Kailyn Peters came off the bench adding 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jordan Boddie added 15 points.

With the win the Pioneers are 3-3 on the season. The next game will be December 2nd against Tallahassee in a non-conference matchup.
