Women’s Basketball Wins Two at Santa Fe

After returning from Holiday Break Indian River travel to Santa Fe to participate in their Best Western Gateway Classic. In the first matchup, Indian River defeated Florida State College of Jacksonville 80-30. In the first quarter the Pioneers, defensive efforts were on full display holding FSCJ to only 4 points and only 13 at halftime.

The Pioneers had four players in double digits, Jasmine Peaks led all scorers with 13 points and five assists. Rapuluichi Ngorka added 12 points and 17 rebounds. Claire Simmons scored 12 points, six rebounds and 6 assists. Makala Torrence continue her hot shooting, hitting four 3 pointers scoring 12 points.

In the second game on Friday afternoon, Santa Fe seek revenge for losing 86-48 in a previous matchup against Indian River on December 14th. The second matchup was a close battle from start to finish, the Pioneers escaped to earn their 15th win of the season.

Four players for the River were in double digits, Rapuluchi led all scorers with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Tavi Habib added 14 points and 12 rebounds, Shomari Phillips contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore point guard Janiah Alexander scored 11 points and eight assists.

"This weekend was a good test for us, we found away to win against a hungry Santa Fe team. We have been working extremely hard all year, we are starting to click at the right time as we begin conference play" Coach Robinson noted.

With the Win, the Pioneers are currently 15-2 on the season. Ranked 15th in the nation which is the highest ranking in program history.
