Indian River Women’s Basketball Earns State Runner Up at Region VIII Tournament

Thursday Afternoon Indian River State College Defeated Gulf Coast State 72 – 65 in the first round of State Tournament. With the win, the Pioneers upset # 3 Commanders who was ranked Top 25 in the Nation. Sophomore guard Maryanne Logsdon led the Pioneers in scoring with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists. Breanna Campbell added 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Aniyah Jenkins recorded a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshmen Tavi Habib contributed 12 points.

"I was proud of our defensive efforts, we were able to hold Gulf Coast to 10 points in the fourth which allowed us to take the lead" Coach Robinson noted.

Friday Afternoon Indian River State College defeated Eastern Florida 61 – 59, in a highly contested matchup. Throughout the game there were multiple led changes, Eastern went into halftime up 34 – 32. The Pioneers came out with a defensive mindset and held the Titans to a 7-point quarter, going into the fourth up six points. Breanna Campbell contributed 22 points and Tavi Habib added 18 points. With the win the Pioneers will advance to the Region VII Championship game for the first time since 1987.

Saturday Evening the Pioneers couldn't recover from a 3 point second quarter, causing the River to fall 81 – 40 in the final game of the Region VIII Tournament.

"Overall our program grew tremendously this weekend, we came here with the expectations to win it all and we fall short. We will continue to work during the off season and comeback better 2023 season" Coach Robinson noted.
