Women’s Basketball Defeats Daytona State in Home Opener

On Tuesday evening, the Pioneers host Daytona State College in a highly contested matchup.

In the first quarter the River jumped out to an early 16 – 8 lead. The River was playing their best basketball getting defensive stops and making shots. Maryanne Logsdon made several big shots in the first half to help Pioneers go into halftime up 8 points.

At the start of the third, the Falcons made their run to shorten the lead to 4 points but Freshmen Tavi Habib knock down two big mid-range jumpers to push the lead back to 8 points.

The Pioneers would go on to win 76 – 70 in their first home game of the season. "It felt good to be back in front of our fans, playing in our gym. We understood we lost two games this past weekend and we wanted to protect our home floor, Coach Robinson noted."

Sophomore Shooting Guard Maryanne Logsdon led the Pioneers in scoring adding 25 points, 11 assist and five rebounds. Tavi Habib contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and Shomari Phillips added 10 points.

The Pioneers are currently 2 – 2 on the season, next game will be Saturday November 13th at Palm Beach State College at 2pm.
