Women’s Basketball suffers Two losses at Juco Shootout

Friday morning Indian River State College Women's Basketball team traveled to Melbourne to compete against Santa Fe College. After a back and forth first half the Saints defeated the Pioneers 68 – 54.

Coach Robinson noted "We have to get better at the little things, we failed to execute and get defensive stops, a program like Santa Fe we can't afford to make those mistakes."

Freshmen Amarie Godwin led the Pioneers in scoring contributing 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sophomore shooting guard Maryanne added 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Pioneers will be playing a back to back against Eastern Florida State College Saturday evening.

In Saturday evening matchup, came out on firing on all cylinders. Both teams would compete back and forth for the majority of the first half. The last 4 minutes of the second quarter hurt the Pioneers scoring wise which cause Eastern to go into halftime up by 8 points.

In the third quarter the struggles continued, Eastern lead grew to 16 and the Pioneers dig a whole too deep to recover from. The Titans beat the Pioneers 72 – 56, despite having three players in double digits. Freshmen Tavi Habib added 15 points and nine rebounds, Amarie Godwin added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Maryanne contributed 13 points and five rebounds.

Coach Robinson mentioned "Our effort and energy was electric tonight, the quarters we failed to score hurt us which caused us to get down by 16 early and we couldn't close the gap."

With the lost, the Pioneers currently stand 1 – 2 on the season. The River hopes to get back on track at their home season opener Tuesday against Daytona State College.
