Women’s Basketball suffers first loss of the season

Tallahassee Florida, Indian River State College completed against nationally ranked Northwest Florida State College Saturday January 30th. The River started the game very slow, scoring a total of 20 points in the first half. The Raiders defensive efforts seem to be too much for the River throughout three quarters. It was until the fourth quarter the River realized they could compete with Northwest. After being down by 17 in the fourth, the River fought back to bring the lead down to six points. However the Raiders would go on to win 64 – 59.

"I thought our ladies played with a lot of heart, we understood we made key turnovers that costed us at the end of the game, a team of that caliber we can't afford to give too many opportunities. Our youngness showed tonight by not communicating on the defensive end. Overall we fought hard but fell short" Coach Robinson mentioned.

The River defensive efforts created 32 turnovers for nationally ranked Northwest Florida. "Our mindset defensively is to dictate and disrupt, I believe we did a great job doing that but made key mistakes on rotations which caused us" Coach Robinson noted.

Sophomore guard Breanna Campbell added 17 points and Akiyonna Joiner contributed 12 points for The River.

With this loss the River falls to 3 - 1 on the season, with nationally ranked Eastern Florida schedule at home on February 3rd.
