Women's Basketball Sweeps ASA Miami

Hialeah, Florida – Indian River State College women's basketball program defeated ASA Miami by a score of 86-51.  With the win The River is tied for second place in southern conference with a record of 6-4 and overall record of 16-12. "To be in a position to make it to the state tournament in my second year here at the River is a testament to where we are heading as a program. We want to graduate athletes and complete for championships, Coach Robinson noted."

Indian River took the league early in the first quarter and never looked back. The River had four players in double digits, sophomore guard Loni Sales contributed 17 points and six rebounds, Jaqarra Phillips added 16 points, Marnicha Prudent scored 11 points and freshmen Lateshia Edwards added 10 points and seven rebounds.

"I am proud of the way we started the game today, we wanted to lock in defensively and get stops early and I believe we did that. The goal is to get better each game and I believe we are growing up and settling in to their roles, Coach Robinson mentioned."

The River women's basketball have a big week ahead as they hope to clinch second place in the southern conference. Wednesday the Pioneers host Broward College for sophomore night and on Saturday the River travel to Miami Dade for a Southern conference showdown.
