Indian River Earns Two Run Rule Victories Over Macomb

FORT PIERCE, FL- In a dominant performance on Wednesday, March 5 The River defeated Macomb Softball with a score of 11-1, showcasing their offensive prowess, particularly in a remarkable second inning where they scored eight runs. The inning started with Sophia Loreto's single, which brought in the first run. Thaima Maximiliana followed with a walk that also resulted in a run, and Hezzy Seabrook contributed with another single that added another run to the tally. Kassidy Pontbriant executed a perfect sacrifice bunt, scoring yet another run, and Jaci Alvey capped off the inning with a triple that drove in three more runs.
The scoring didn't stop there, as The River continued to build their lead in the third inning when Grace Valdes grounded out, bringing in one run, and Regan Means hit a sacrifice fly to score another, extending the lead to 10-1. On the mound, Hanna Deschambault earned the win for The River, pitching three solid innings where she allowed just two hits and one run while striking out one batter. Alexa Bethel came in for relief, delivering two innings of shutout ball, striking out three and allowing no hits.
Alvey stood out offensively, leading the team with two runs batted in and finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Loreto was impressive as well, going 2-for-2, while Presley Smith led the team with two walks. The team demonstrated exceptional plate discipline, accumulating seven walks throughout the game. Additionally, The River showcased their speed on the bases, stealing a remarkable 16 bases, with Shields, Seabrook, Olivia Newman, Loreto, and Smith each contributing multiple steals.
In a commanding performance, The River triumphed over Macomb with a decisive 14-0 victory in their second game of the day. Grace Valdes was the standout player, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double in the fourth inning and two singles in the second and third innings. The scoring began in the first inning when Jaci Alvey singled, bringing in the first run for Indian River. The team then exploded offensively in the second inning, scoring six runs on five hits. A dropped third strike allowed another run to cross the plate, followed by Jordyn Lillis grounding out to score one more. An error by the Macomb defense added another run, while Kassidy Pontbriant's double and Alvey's single each contributed to the growing lead. Moesha de Paula capped off the inning with a single that brought in another run.
The Pioneers continued to extend their lead in the third inning. Regan Means delivered a key single that drove in two runs, and Abril Gomez added to the score with a lineout that brought in another run. On the mound, Pontbriant was dominant, earning the win by allowing only two hits and striking out four batters in three innings. Gomez came in for relief, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out two as well.
The team showcased their offensive depth with a total of 12 hits in the game, with multiple players contributing to the effort. Alongside Valdes, both Pontbriant and Alvey had multiple hits. The River squad displayed their aggressive base-running, stealing an impressive 14 bases throughout the game, with Sarah Phipps, Valdes, Thaima Maximiliana, de Paula, and Alvey all contributing multiple steals. In addition, the defense turned one double play, solidifying their dominance on both sides of the game.
Overall, it was an impressive outing for Indian River as they continue to build momentum for their season.
