The River Commands Third Round of NJCAA World Series with 10-1 Victory
OXFORD, AL- The Pioneers continued their impressive run in the NJCAA Division 1 Softball World Series with a commanding 10-1 victory over the Whitecaps in the third round on Wednesday, May 22nd.
Cassidy Patterson was a force to be reckoned with, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and igniting the Pioneers' batting frenzy. The Pioneers didn't waste any time and took control of the game early on. In the bottom of the first, they grabbed a 2-1 lead, thanks to Maddox Thomas's single and Ciara Gendron getting hit by a pitch, each driving in a run. The momentum stayed with the Pioneers as they added two more runs in the second inning, courtesy of clutch RBI singles from Presley Smith and Cambrie Todd.
The offensive onslaught didn't stop there. In the third inning, the Pioneers piled on four more runs. Sarah Phipps hit into a fielder's choice, and with singles from Adrianna Portanova, Smith, and Todd, the Pioneers widened the gap, showcasing their depth in batting, all contributing to the 13 hits in the game. On the mound, J'dah Girigorie replicated their earlier performance, securing the win with another stellar outing. Over five innings, Girigorie allowed just three hits and one run, while striking out five and issuing a single walk.
The Pioneers' defense was flawless, not committing a single error throughout the game, and Indian River showed their speed on the bases, stealing five in total, with Phipps and Smith each swiping multiple bags.
Next up for the Pioneers is tomorrow, May 23rd at 5PM EST vs Northwest Florida on ESPN+.
