The River Sweeps Polk With Two Shutout Victories

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Indian River completed its season sweep over Polk State last night with two more road wins (7-0 and 6-0). Game one featured 11 hits by the Pioneers bats, including multiple hit games from Cambrie Todd, Maddox Thomas, Sarah Phipps and J'dah Girigorie. The offense scored in every inning excluding the 2nd and added 12 stolen bases throughout the game with Presley Smith leading with four. Girigorie also combined with Alexa Bethel and Hanna Deschambault for a 1 hitter, 10 strike out performance from the freshman pitching staff.

Indian River kept things rolling in game 2, this time with sophomore Mackenzie Masternak combining with Girigorie on the mound. The duo  held the Eagles scoreless again and collectively had 10 strikeouts. Eight different batters recorded a hit for the Pioneers, for a team total of 12. Smith went 3-4 and Todd crushed two home runs in the nightcap. The wins at Polk completed another conference season sweep.

Indian River plays next at home on Thursday, April 18 against College of Central Florida. This will be the first match up between these two teams due to weather delays, first pitch of the double header is at 2:00 p.m.
