Number Three Nationally Ranked Pioneers Get the Sweep

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College (IRSC) hosted a double header over Daytona State College Saturday afternoon and collected two more conference wins. In game one the #3 Nationally Ranked River took the lead early scoring one in the first inning. IRSC was up 2-0 when Daytona tied the game up in the fifth inning. Indian River scored in the bottom of the sixth to go ona and win the game 3-2. The River collected eight hits to help win the game. Sarah Phipps and Cassidy Patterson each collected two hits for Pioneers to help win the first game. Pioneers stole seven bases in the game, with assistance from Phipps, J'dah Girigorie, and Patterson's speed. Defense was flawless making no errors and turning double plays. Girigorie earned the win for Pioneers, giving up five hits and two runs over seven innings all while striking out five and walking one.

The second game saw the same intensity with the Pioneers scoring in the first inning again. Presley Smith provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Pioneers with two runs batted in. The Pioneers scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to right field by Smith. Patterson was the leadoff hitter for the Pioneers and led with two hits in three at bats, to help produce the lead. Daytona kept things tight scoring 3 runs throughout the game, but the Pioneers came out on top with a 5-3 win. The defense for the River was tight again committing no errors. Ciara Gendron earned the win for Pioneers, surrendering five hits and two runs over 5 1/3 innings. She struck out five and walked none.

IRSC will travel on Master's Sunday to play a doubleheader at Seminole State College of Florida. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
