Indian River Takes Two From Miami

MIAMI, FL - On Tuesday night the Pioneers hosted a Citrus Conference double header against Miami Dade College. In game one The Pioneers scored their first run in the third inning to take the lead, then added two more runs on a fifth inning home-run by Cambrie Todd. The game took an unexpected twist in the top of the seventh when Miami Dade tied the game at three and forced extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, Indian River led off the bottom of the ninth inning with successful ground balls from both Jordyn Lillis and Cassidy Patterson. Presley Smith would then deliver in the with a base hit to seal the victory. Smith was strong all game going 4-4 plus a walk, along with the game winning RBI. Indian River amassed 11 hits in the game and Emma Solis earned the win in the circle. The sophomore pitcher from Texas threw two solid innings in relief, giving up no runs on two hits, while striking out two and walking none.

The exciting finish and momentum from the first contest carried over to game two. The Pioneers struck early and often, scoring three runs in the first inning, added seven more in the second and another two in the bottom of the third. The team collected 15 hits in this contest and concluded the evening with a run-rule shortened 12-2 win. Adrianna Portanova, Maddox Thomas, and Ciara Gendron each collected multiple hits for Indian River to lead the team. Solis earned her second win of the night, giving up just one hit and zero runs over three innings of work, while striking out one and walking none.

Next up for the Pioneers is a double header at Seminole State College. Original date has been postponed until Sunday, April 14 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
