Girigorie Secures FCSAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week Honor Once More

Freshman J'dah Girigorie, from Willemstad, Curacao, is making waves in the FCSAA Region 8 DI Softball, consistently earning accolades for her exceptional pitching prowess. This marks the third time this season that Girigorie has been honored with the FCSAA Region 8 DI Softball Pitcher of the Week award, having previously received it for her outstanding performances in the weeks of March 5 and March 12.

In the Week of April 1, Girigorie displayed her dominance on the mound once again:

  • She boasted a remarkable 5-0 record with an outstanding 0.64 earned run average across five appearances.
  • Girigorie clinched victories in both games of doubleheaders against Eastern Florida State and St. Petersburg, as well as securing the game-one win versus Hillsborough with an impressive three-hit shutout.
  • Over the span of 22 innings pitched, she allowed only two runs, gave up 16 hits and four walks, and struck out an impressive total of 25 batters.

During the Week of March 12, Girigorie continued to showcased her pitching skills with the following standout performances:

  • She achieved a 2-0 record with one save and an outstanding 0.86 earned run average over three appearances.
  • Girigorie delivered a memorable performance in a 1-0, 9-inning pitchers' duel against Florida SouthWestern, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out 12 batters.
  • She secured the game one win and game two save against State College of Florida.
  • Across 16.1 innings pitched, Girigorie allowed six hits and three runs (two earned), while issuing four walks and striking out 25 batters.

In the week of March 5, Girigorie once again demonstrated her dominance on the mound with the following highlights:

  • She maintained a perfect 4-0 record with an exceptional 0.63 earned run average over five appearances.
  • Girigorie secured complete-game victories in both games of a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Eastern Florida State, including a four-hit, five-inning shutout in game one; allowed two hits and one run (unearned) over seven innings in game two.
  • Additionally, she recorded wins in relief against Hillsborough and St. Petersburg, contributing to a combined seven innings of shutout ball and tallying 15 strikeouts.
  • Across 22.1 innings pitched, Girigorie conceded only 12 hits, three runs (two earned), four walks, and striking out an impressive total of 29 batters.

Statistically, Girigorie is among the top five leaders in the country, boasting a stellar 1.00 earned run average and an impressive total of 183 strikeouts. Additionally, she leads the nation in wins(24), ranks second in saves (5), and showcases her versatility by contributing offensively with a remarkable .341 batting average, a .396 on-base percentage, and eight stolen bases. 

Catch J'dah Girigorie back in action with her team at home on April 9 as they take on Miami Dade College at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
