Two Walk Off Home Runs In Sweep Over Hillsborough

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College (IRSC) extended their winning streak to six on Thursday, completing another Citrus Conference season sweep over Hillsborough Community College (HCC). Both games ending on walk-off home runs that resulted in run-rule shortened victories for the Pioneers.

In game one, IRSC struck early in the first, added two more runs in the fourth and then finished with seven runs to end the contest 10-0. Kendal Bryant entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth and crushed the game winning blast over the right center field fence. The offense tallied 13 hits in the game with Maddox Thomas, Presley Smith, Cassidy Patterson, and Ciara Gendron each collecting multiple hits in the contest. J'dah Girigorie allowed just three hits over five innings on the mound, while striking out eight.

Game two saw the same offensive output, again taking the lead in the first inning with five runs, followed by four more in innings five and six. Callan Kloeckner entered this contest in the bottom of the sixth and launched the solo game winner into the left center field scoreboard. The Pioneers were again very aggressive on the base paths and stole a total of 15 on the day. Sophomore Mackenzie Masternak earned the win for Pioneers, striking out four batters in five strong innings of work, while walking just one.    

IRSC alongside Florida Southwestern, stay atop the Citrus Conference standings. The Pioneers travel next on Saturday April 6 to St. Petersburg College, for another double header at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
