Indian River Earns Season Sweep Over Eastern Florida

MELBOURNE, FL- Indian River State College (IRSC) traveled on Tuesday, April 2, for a Citrus Conference matchup with Eastern Florida State College. Earlier in the season, the Pioneers defeated the Titans at home 8-0 and 6-1. Last night saw the same results, with Indian River winning both road matches 7-2 and 7-4. This completes the season sweep and keeps the Pioneers atop the conference standings (21-3). In Game one, the offense scored early on in the second inning and added two more runs in the third, fourth, and seventh. Both Cambrie Todd and Presley Smith collected two hits and two RBIs each. The team totaled eight hits, six walks, and three stolen bases. J'dah Girigorie earned her 23rd win of the season, pitching six and two third innings, surrendering four hits while striking out three. 

Game two saw more offensive firepower, with Indian River collecting twelve total hits, three walks, and nine stolen bases. The team scored in four of the seven innings, with Cassidy Patterson and Adrianna Portanova leading the way, each going 3-4 at the top of the order. Mackenzie Masternak started in the circle for the Pioneers, pitching three scoreless innings before giving way to Girigorie, who helped conserve the lead and the victory. Overall, IRSC improved their record to 33-4.

Next up for the Pioneers will be at home Thursday, April 4, versus Hillsborough Community College (4 p.m. and 6 p.m.), followed by a road trip on Saturday, April 6, to take on St. Petersburg (1 p.m. and 3 p.m.).
