Pioneers Win Two at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Indian River notched two more Citrus Conference wins at Daytona on Saturday, March 16. In game one, the Pioneers jumped out to an early lead on Cambrie Todd's first inning RBI. The Pioneers would collect a total of 12 hits throughout the contest en route to a 6-4 final score and victory. J'dah Girigorie earned the complete game win, surrendering one earned run on five hits while striking out six and walking two.

Game two saw Daytona strike first in inning one. It wasn't until the third when the Pioneers jumped ahead on a Presley Smith double and a Maddox Thomas single. Each hit drove in two runs resulting in a 4-1 lead. Daytona would fight back and tie things at four in the bottom of the fifth. With the game still tied heading into the top of the seventh, Indian River worked two runners on before Sarah Phipps smashed a three run home-run to take a 7-4 lead. The River's bats stayed hot all day while collecting another 13 hits throughout the game. Zoe Thornsbury was clutch in the lineup going two for three, including a double in the fifth and a single and stolen base in the seventh. Ciara Gendron in relief, earned the win in the circle for the Pioneers. The freshman threw two and a third shutout innings, surrendering zero hits while striking out four and walking none. Pioneers also added a duplicate four stolen bases in each of the two games. 

The River plays next on Tuesday, March 19 at home vs. Polk State at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
