Softball Splits the Double Header at Miami-Dade

MIAMI, FL – Indain River State College (IRSC) split road games at Miami-Dade College. In game one, the Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead on Presley Smith's single RBI. The River then fell behind 4-1 until sophomore Cambrie Todd smashed a three-run home run to center field, tying the game in the third. Unfortunately, some mistakes by the Pioneers led to an 8-4 defeat by the Sharks. Sophomore Emma Solis pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief, surrendering only two hits and zero earned runs. Solis also struck out three and walked just one.

Game two saw Indian River bounce back and get back into the familiar win column. IRSC got another early lead in the first, but Miami-Dade evened the score at two heading into the sixth. Freshman Ciara Gendron ripped a two-run double to break the tie and then scored herself on a steal of home. The Pioneers would not surrender this 5-2 lead and took game two to earn the split. Gendron went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the offense, and fellow freshman J'dah Girigorie earned the win in the circle for the Pioneers, striking out five and walking only one.

IRSC plays next at home vs. Seminole State on Thursday, March 14, at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
