Two More Conference Wins for Indian River

FORT PIERCE, FL- The Pioneers hosted a double header against the State College of Florida (Manatee/Sarasota). In game one, the offense started early for Indian River, scoring five runs in the first inning. The Pioneers collected a total of eight hits, with a run-rule shortened final of 9-1. Sophomore Cassidy Patterson and freshman Ciara Gendron each collected two hits for the Pioneers, and the team collectively added four walks and five stolen bases. Freshman J'dah Girigorie earned the win for the Pioneers, allowing one hit and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking one.

Game two turned into an exciting come-from-behind win for the Pioneers. Indian River flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs to take a 6-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a three-run pinch-hit home run by sophomore Kendal Bryant. Sophomore Adrianna Portanova was three for four, leading the offense output, and the Pioneeers stole another five bases for a total of 10 in the sweep. The team defense was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error, with sophomore Emma Solis earning the win in the circle. The reliever gave up zero hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three.

Indian River is scheduled to travel to Miami Dade for a double header at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on March 12.
