Pioneers Pick Up Two In Tampa

TAMPA, FL - Indian River State College Softball traveled to Tampa on Thursday to face Hillsborough Community College for an evening double header.

Sophomore Cambrie Todd got the Pioneers on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single. Freshmen Presley Smith and Jordyn Lillis each collected two hits for Pioneers to contribute to the 8-3 first game victory. Emma Solis, sophomore, earned the win for Pioneers, surrendered only two hits and zero runs over five innings, adding six strikeouts and walking just two. Freshman pitcher Hannah Deschambault earned a sixth inning save.

The second game saw another solid performance as The River finished the sweep with a 7-0 nightcap final. Freshmen Ciara Gendron and J'dah Giragorie combined for the shutout with 10 total strikeouts and just three hits allowed. The Pioneers offense amassed 11 hits in the game, with Sophomores Maddox Thomas and Zoe Thornsbury each collecting multiple hits. IRSC base runners on the night also combined for another nine stolen bases. 

Indian River plays next at home vs St. Pete on Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
