IRSC Wins Double Header at South Florida

AVON PARK, FL - Tuesday night the Pioneers traveled to South Florida State College for an evening double header. The Pioneers captured a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth before breaking the game open with a combined 16 runs in the in the sixth and seventh innings. Sophomore Cambrie Todd led the offensive barrage collecting four hits in five at bats, while both sophomore Maddox Thomas and freshman Presley Smith went three for five. The three together contributed eight RBI's while sophomore Adrianna Portanova added three of her own. The team collectively had 17 hits in the decisive 20-2 victory. Freshman J'dah Girigorie earned the win for Pioneers. The reliever allowed three hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking none.

Game 2 saw another solid performance, with the Pioneers scoring early with two runs in both the second and third inning. Sophomore Emma Solis earned the (5-1) win for Pioneers. The starting pitcher allowed just one hit and one run (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Solis helped her own cause at the plate as well, going three for four with two doubles and an RBI. Freshman Mackenzie Wolfe and sophomore Cassidy Patterson each collected multiple hits and Patterson added three stolen bases.

The River plays next on Tuesday, February 27th, hosting Eastern Florida State at 4:00pm and 6:00pm.
