Indian River Softball Brings Home Two More Wins

NAPLES, FL- After spiliting day one, day two of the Paradise Cove Invitational event matched Indian River against panhandle rival Chipola College, who had won both of their games on Friday, including an 8-4 victory over National #1 Florida Southwestern State College. Indian River however, continued their own winning ways with a convincing 12-1 victory over the Lady Indians. Freshmen Ciara Gendron and J'dah Girigorie partnered both in the circle (combined five hits in six innings with six strikeouts) and at the plate (combined two doubles and four RBI's).  The Pioneers' offense as a whole, collected 12 hits, four walks and seven stolen bases, and sealed the run-rule victory with six runs in the sixth.

The River (10-1) won the last game of the weekend against Inspiration Academy.  The Pioneers scored in five of the seven innings and finished the tournament with a decisive 8-1 victory. Freshman Hanna Deschambault earned the win for Pioneers, allowing five hits and zero earned runs, while striking out six and walking just one in four and two-thirds innings. Sophomore Adrianna Portanova led the Pioneers offensively, going two for three with a single, double and two RBI's.

IRSC plays next at South Florida State College on Tuesday, February 20th (4PM and 6PM).
