Sophomore Day A Success With Double Header Wins over St. Thomas

Many family and friends traveled from near and far yesterday celebrate Sophomore Day at The River.

The Pioneers (42-10) honored the team's nine sophomores with player presentations between the two games, sharing with everyone an impressive amount of both individual and team accomplishment's.  IRSC added to the day's festivities with two wins over St. Thomas (Miami).

Game One (3-0) included all nine sophomores in the starting lineup and concluded with a 3-0 shutout victory.

Five different sophomores added hits with Alina Varga and Kelsey Ganci accounting for RBI's.

Game Two included an exciting come from behind extra inning victory (3-2).

Freshman Cambrie Todd entered the game in the eighth inning and delivered an RBI line drive up the middle to score sophomore Daija Torcha. The game also featured seven different Pioneers collecting hits, with Freshman Zoe Thorsbury going 2-3 and a go ahead RBI in the fourth. Sophomore pitchers Dominique Prevette and Alina Varga each pitched up wins on the day and combined for a total of eighteen strikeouts. The offense also collectively had eleven stolen bases, to add to their national leading total (250). Another milestone moment on this special day was playing 'under the lights' for the first time on Indian River's home field.
