Indian River Sweeps Eastern Florida To Start Conference Play

Indian River (31-7) beat Eastern Florida State College 6-1 in Game 1 on Wednesday, then capped off the double header with a 1-0 victory in the finale.

Alina Varga went four innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out seven. Dominique Prevette  finished the game in the circle throwing three innings, including five strikeouts. IRSC tallied twelve total hits including multiple hits by Bridget Dunham (2-3  1 RBI) and Daija Torchia (3-4 2RS). Kyla Knier added three stolen bases to the seven team total. The second game of the day was a tough fought battle that the Pioneers pulled out (1-0) on an RBI sac fly from Kyla Knier, to drive in Raelyn Roland who tripled to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Varga got her second win of the day throwing all seven innings in the shutout performance. The sophomore surrendered just two hits while striking out another seven. The team will face Eastern again this Saturday (5:00pm) during conference "crossover" games played in Melbourne, Fl. The 1:00pm game will see IRSC take on SCF Manatee.
