Indian River State College Pioneers Varsity Grabs Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Coastal Alabama

After a sluggish start IRSC got things going and ran off with a 10-6 victory over Coastal Alabama-South on Friday in Dothan, Alabama.

The Pioneers trailed 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning when freshman Nicolette Luzzi tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Maeghan Branch had a huge night at the plate for IRSC.  The sophomore catcher went 4-4, driving in four runs.  Branche doubled in the second, doubled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Casey Kurent got the win.  Macie Stanfield relieved Kurent in the fifth, tossing three strong innings in relief to get the save.

The Pioneers racked up 15 hits.  Branche, Brooke Mathews, Jaden Williamson, and Morgan Roberts all had multiple hits for IRSC.

The 5-0 Pioneers return to action on Friday, 2-12-21 taking on Hillsboro Community College in Ft. Pierce. Game times are at 1:00PM & 3:00PM
