Indian River Sweeps Hillsborough Community College

Indian River State College won both games of a double-header in softball against HCC on Friday in Ft. Pierce.  IRSC took the first game 8-0, then completed the sweep with a 4-3 victory in game two. In the game one win freshman pitcher Taylor Wroten threw a six inning, complete game shutout over the visiting HCC Hawks.

IRSC secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fifth inning. Kirsty Granville, Morgan Roberts and Tayler Owens powered the big inning with RBIs. Wroten was dominant in the pitcher's circle for the Pioneers allowing only two hits and striking out eight.

IRSC totaled 12 hits. Roberts, Maeghan Branche and Macie Stanfield each collected two hits to lead the team's offense.

In the second game Indian River defeated Hillsborough CC 4-3 after taking the lead late in the game. IRSC trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brooke Mathews homered on a 0-2 count, driving in two runs.

HCC scored three runs in the first inning, but the resilient Lady Pioneers managed to pull out the victory.

Casey Kurent led things off in the pitcher's circle for IRSC. She went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits and struck out seven.  Freshman pitcher Jaden Williamson relieved Kurent in the 6th and got the win in relief thanks to Mathew's game winning homerun. Mathews, Macie Stanfield, and Maeghan Branche each collected hits to lead the Pioneer offense.

IRSC raised its season record to 10-0 and will play at home on Saturday against South Florida State College.  Game times in Ft. Pierce are at 1:00 & 3:00.
