Indian River Softball Opens Season with Two Wins at Leadoff Classic

 

 

Indian River opened its 2019 softball season winning two of four games in Clearwater.  IRSC Defeated Enterprise College of Alabama 6-0 and Santa Fe State College 8-7.  The Pioneers lost two one run gamesfalling to Abraham Baldwin College 7-6 and Lake Sumter State College 6-5.

In the seasons opening game Dawn Bodrug was dominant in the circle for the Pioneers. Bodrug tossed a complete game shutout against Enterprise College, striking out 13 batters in the 6-0 win.


The Pioneers totaled 13 hits.  Brooke Mathews, Mya Maddox, Kirsty Granville, Madison Headley, and Juhle Prange all collected multiple hits for "The River."  Mathews led Pioneers with three hits in four at bats.



ABAC 7 Indian River 6


The Pioneers fell to ABAC Fillies 7-6 in game two on the final play of the game. The game was tied at six with ABAC scored in the bottom of the seventh on a 3-2 count, scoring the winning run.


Indian River trailed by four runs in the fifth inning, but then fought back to tie the game going into the last inning. Korie Corral, Kirsty Granville, Juhle Prange, and Juliana Speranza all picked up RBIs in the rally.


IRSC had ten hits in the game. Speranza, Taylor Dyal, and Adriana Otero all managed multiple hits for the Pioneers. Otero, Dyal, and Speranza each collected two hits to lead the offense.



Indian River 8 Santa Fe 7


On Saturday IRSC took the lead late in the game and defeated SFSC 8-7. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the sixth when Adriana Otero drew a bases loaded walk, scoring the game winning run.


IRSC totaled 14 hits in the game. Otero, Juliana Speranza, Taylor Dyal, Korie Corral, and Madison Headley each had multiple hits for the Pioneers. Otero led the offense with three hits in three at bats.



Lake Sumter 6 Indian River 5


In the team's final game of the weekend IRSC surrendered the lead in the sixth inning and fell to Lake Sumter 6-5. 


Madison Headley, Adriana Otero, Korie Corral, Juliana Speranza, Juhle Prange, Kirsty Granville, and Mya Maddox each collected hits for the Pioneers.


IRSC (2-2) will next play against Hillsborough Community College on February 8th in Ft. Pierce.  Game times are 1:00 and 3:00.
