Game 1 (IRSC 7 Broward 2)
On the opening game of the Southern Conference Tournament IRSC grabbed an early lead on its way to a 7-3 victory over Broward College on Saturday. IRSC opened the scoring in the first on a single by Adriana Otero, a single by Taylor Strickland, a single by Jaden Kline, and a single by Brittini Norwoodin the first inning. Liz Gollin(12-3) was the winning pitcher. Gollin in relief of starter Valerie Alvarado went five and a third innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five and walking one.
The Pioneers collected eight hits on the day. Norwoodand Klineeach collected two hits to lead the Pioneers offense.
Game 2 (IRSC 5 Palm Beach State 3)
In the second game on Saturday IRSC built a five-run lead and then held off Palm Beach State's charge for a 5-3 victory. The Pioneers put up four runs in the fifth inning. Jaden Kline, Juliana Speranza, and Kayla Washington powered the big inning with RBIs. Freshman Dawn Bodrug(7-5) was credited with the victory. She lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out five and walking one. Indian River totaled 12 hits. Speranzaand Dream Aaroneach racked up multiple hits. Speranzaled theoffense with three hits in four at bats.
Game 3 (IRSC 5 Miami Dade)
On day two of the conference tournament freshman pitcher Elizabeth Gollin (13-3) led the Pioneers to a 5-0 win over Southern Conference rival Miami Dade College. The Pioneer offense got things started in the second inning. Jaden Klinedoubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. IRSC tallied four more runs in the third inning. Big hits in the four run inning were an RBI single by Crystal Grimaldo and a home run by Kline. Gollin tossed a complete game seven inning shutout, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out four. Klinewent 2-for-3 at the plate to lead theteam in hits.
Game 4 (IRSC 9 Eastern Florida 0)
Freshman Dawn Bodrug(8-5) didn't allow a run against Eastern Florida State, throwing a complete game shutout and leading IRSCto a 9-0 victory. Sophomore catcher Dream Aaronhit her seventh homerun on the season in the first inning to put the Pioneers on the board with the game's first run. Indian River's offense added 3 runs in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th innings to close out the scoring for the game. Bodrug was dominant in the circle in her five innings of work. She surrendered zero runs on three hits, striking out eight. ThePioneers had ten hits in the game. Savannah Julylia and Crystal Grimaldo all managed multiple hits, each collecting two hits.
Indian River raises its season record to 28-10 and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. The team returns to action on 3-21-18 taking on Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth. The 1st game of the scheduled double-header begins at 5:00pm with game two scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
