Indian River State College Opens Southern Conference with Sweep of Broward College

Indian River opened defense of their Southern Conference Championship with a pair of convincing wins against Broward College 9-1 and 23-1 in Ft. Pierce on Thursday.

 

 

IRSC put up three runs in the fourth inning. The rally was led by  Binghamand a home run by Crystal GrimaldoFreshman pitcher Dawn Bodruggot the win surrendering one run on one hit over five innings, striking out five.  Grimaldo led the River offense with two hits in three at bats.

In the second game of the double-header Broward College got things moving in the first inning scoring in the top of the 1st inning but IRSC notched eight runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.  Delainee Chestnut, Kayla Washington, Hannah Collier, and Lillie Rodriguez each had RBIs in the frame.  Valerie Alvarado was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and one run in her five innings of work striking out two and walking one.

IRSC socked four home runs on the day. Korie Corral had a homer in the third inning. Collier had a grand slam in the fourth inning. Crystal Grimaldo went for the long ball in the first inning. Jaden Kline had a four bagger in the first inning.

The Pioneers tallied 18 hits. Corral, Danielle Bieberle, and Michalla Redick all had multiple hits for Indian River State College Pioneers Varsity. Corral went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense in hits. The Pioneer defense was equally as sharp not committing a single error in the field.
