National Record Set as IRSC Defeats Tampa and Grand Valley
FORT PIERCE, FL- In the final meet before the team leaves for winter break, Indian River hosted a double dual meet against NCAA Division II University of Tampa and Grand Valley State University. The meet was highlighted by numerous wins for Indian River, including an NJCAA National Record set by freshman Oliver Nell in the 50 butterfly.
In addition to his record-breaking performance, Nell also claimed victory in the 50 freestyle and contributed to two relay wins: the 200 medley relay with teammates Gabriel Morales, Kito Campbell, and Riccardo Pandin, and the 200 freestyle relay with Pandin, Felipe Costa, and Morales.
Other event winners for the River men's team included Justin Halford in both the 1m and 3m diving events, and Kito Campbell in the 100 breaststroke.
On the women's side of the competition, Indian River dominated the relays. The team of Nika Tomic, Ana Villamil, Sara Safranko, and Kelly Zwart won the 200 medley relay, while the 200 freestyle relay was won by Safranko, Amelia Brown, Zwart, and Sophia Kogelschatz.
Individual winners for the women included Alexandra Andueza in the 1m and 3m diving events, Safranko in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Tomic in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and Villamil in the 50 and 100 breaststroke.
