Loomis and McReed set new NJCAA records

The final day of the 2017 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships saw another two National Records erased.

In the Saturday prelims session, Nick Loomis eradicated his third National Record of the competition when he posted a time of 21.27 in the 50 Butterfly.  Loomis previously broke the 100 and 200 Butterfly records earlier in the week, allowing him the distinct honor of now having his name in the record book for all butterfly events.  Ultimately, his records led to the needed bonus points thrusting him into the high point achiever of the championship, thus being named 2017 NJCAA Male Swimmer of the Year.

Sophomore sprinter, Osianna McReed, hailing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, rewrote the record book in the women's 50 Butterfly.  McReed flirted with the record in the morning heats but came back in the finals to break the record with the time of 24.62.  Her record, combined with her four individual titles, secured her the title 2017 NJCAA Female Swimmer of the Year.  The record in the event was previously held by IRSC alum, Tayla Lovemore, who went on to compete for South Africa at the 2016 World Short Course Swimming Championships in Windsor, Canada and is a 2017 NCAA qualifier competing for Florida State University.
