River’s Early Lead Slips Away in Loss to Santa Fe

GAINSEVILLE, FL- It was a tough battle for Indian River State College against Santa Fe College on Saturday, February 1. The first half was promising for Indian River, as they entered halftime with a 33-24 lead. The team showed strong defense and efficient scoring, with key contributions from their guards, who hit timely three-pointers. They moved the ball well and seemed to be in control for most of the first half.
However, the second half saw Santa Fe come out with a vengeance. They quickly tightened the game, capitalizing on missed opportunities from Indian River and ramping up the intensity on both ends of the floor. Despite a few solid efforts from The River to regain momentum, their shooting went cold, and they struggled to contain Santa Fe's fast breaks and perimeter shooting.
Although the second half was challenging, Indian River kept fighting, with their offense showing flashes of brilliance. However, it wasn't enough to overcome the surge from Santa Fe, as the game ended with a final score of 89-68 in favor of Santa Fe.
Now sitting at 7-15 overall and 0-8 in conference play, The River will look to regroup and build on the positives from their strong first-half performance. Their next match is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, on the road at Miami Dade College.
