Phillips Announced As New Assistant Coach
FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River is excited to announce the addition of Terrick Phillips as the new Men's Basketball assistant coach. "I would like to thank Coach Jackson and the Athletic Director, Scott Kimmelman, for this opportunity," Phillips said. "Words can't express the gratitude. I will ensure that my gratitude is shown through my coaching and leadership. Thank You."
Along with a winner's mindset, Phillips brings years of experience as a coach. After ending a nine-year professional career, he began coaching other young athletes. Working underneath Head Coach Reco Dawson at Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC), Phillips helped the Titans clinch a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association championship which clinched their bid to play in the NJCAA National Tournament. In just three seasons, Phillips helped CGTC achieve a record of 51-29. During his time there, he assisted with the on-court monitoring, development of players, academic accountability and recruiting. When asked about Phillips, Dawson said, ""With Coach Phillips, Indian River is gaining more than just a coach. Indian River is gaining an individual that will lead others and become the asset that the school needs to build a successful program and successful young adults."
A native of Macon, GA, and like his hometown, Indian River reminded him the importance of having a close community. Phillips graduated from Westside High School and earned an athletic scholarship to play for Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, TN. He then transferred to Voorhees College, where he graduated Cum Laude with his B.S. in Sports Management. His collegiate achievements led him to play professionally for nine years within ten different countries and win a championship.
Phillips has also made it his mission to give back to his community and provide the resources that were not accessible while he was growing up. Phillips has a non-profit organization, the Terrick Phillips Foundation, that allows him to offer scholarships to seniors in his hometown. The purpose of the foundation is to help young professionals within Macon to attend college by providing financial stability and support.
The 2024 season kicks off November 1st. In the meantime, join Phillips as well as Head Coach Jackson this summer at IRSC Basketball summer camps the weeks of June 17-20 and June 24-27.
