Pioneers Season Ends with 83-80 Loss to #3 Chipola

NICEVILLE, FL – As a last-second shot failed to draw iron, time expired on the Pioneers outstanding season. Indian River fell to the #3 ranked Chipola Indians in an instant classic. Down 41-30 at the halftime intermission, Indian River would charge back to within one point on a 12-0 second half run spurned on by multiple changing defenses. Unfortunately, the run would come short by the slightest of margins as Chipola made some crucial free throws down the stretch and fought off a host of Pioneers to secure a critical rebound late.

"I'm so proud of this team. I don't think anyone really knows the adversity we faced this season, and for us to battle down to the very last tenth of a second really shows the character and tenacity of this group. This was a very special team, and I'm going to miss coaching these sophomores. That is the hardest part of seeing a season end, knowing that it was your last game coaching some of these guys," said Coach Bill Morosco.

Indian River was led by sophomore Kyle Brown with 24 points, sophomore Deng Majak added 18 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Jayshayne Woodard neared another triple-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.

The loss ends the Pioneers season with 25 wins and only six losses. In two years under Coach Morosco, Indian River has a record of 49 wins and just 13 losses and has reached the postseason in both years.
