Indian River Downs Another Top 25 Team

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College (IRSC) extended their winning streak to seven games with a win Saturday over rival Florida Southwestern (FSW). FSW came into Fort Pierce as the #24 ranked team in the nation loaded with NCAA Division I talent as always. 

FSW would jump out to an early 10-point lead and give IRSC all it could handle taking a 42-36 lead into halftime. The Pioneers would keep things close in the second half but would not take its first lead until going up 54-53 with 10 minutes reamining in the game. FSW would answer quickly and take a three-point lead into the final media timeout. However, in what Coach Morosco has always referred to as "Winning Time" it would be all Pioneers. IRSC would score on six of the final eight possessions and only allow three baskets to FSW over that span coming away with a 79-76 victory. 

"I'm so proud of this team. We talked about how this game will be very similar to the games in the state tournament. Two championship-level teams battled to the very end today and we executed and made the plays when they mattered most," said Coach Morosco.

IRSC was led in scoring by Jayshayne Woodard with 23 points while Deng Majak and Kyle Brown both added 18 points each to the total. 

Saturday was also Sophomore Night as IRSC honored its five graduating sophomores on this years team. "This is an incredible group of sophomores. Most of them have been with me since the beginning of my tenure here at IRSC and they have epitomized everything I hoped our program would be both on and off the court. They've been a tremendous example of what IRSC stands for," said Coach Morosco. 

The Pioneers hit the road for one final regular season game in Gainesville against Santa Fe on Monday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m.
