Pioneers Extend Winning Streak to 5 Games with Win at St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – IRSC continued its winning ways on the road against St. Petersburg College on Saturday as The Pioneers pulled off a gritty road win 74-59. It was a tough defensive battle in the first half as neither team could find an offensive rhythm but IRSC managed to take a 32-30 lead into the half time break. The second half would be a different story as IRSC would hit four consecutive three's to start the half and build a cushion that it would protect for the remainder of the contest. Eventually building a 23 point lead when the score was 74-51 with 2:30 to go in the contest. However, after a late game subsititution to empty the bench SPC would go on a 8-0 run to end the game 74-59.

"I'm proud of our guys. This is always a really tough trip, It's tied (with Santa Fe) for our longest trip of the year. St. Pete is always going to play outstanding defense and they have the size around the rim to make it hard to score. Eventually, we found our rhythm offensively and we play great defense throughout the game," said Head Coach Bill Morosco.

IRSC was led by Jayshayne Woodard with 16 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. Kyle Brown also scored 16 points, while three more Pioneers scored double figures: Mykol Sanchez with 14, Deng Majak with 13 and Mason Brown with 10.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday, February 28, as they host the Eagles of Polk State.
