El Moutaouakkil Earns his Second National Player of the Week Award

CHARLOTTE, NC - Indian River State College sophomore Mostapha El Moutaouakkil was named NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Player of the Week for the second time this season. After posting stat lines of 31 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block and 35 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 blocks in a 100-92 win over St. Petersburg college and a 91-73 win over Polk State respectively. On the week, El Moutaouakkil averaged 33 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks while shooting 52.5% from the field, 38.4% from 3 and 76% from the free throw line. El Moutaouakkil is currently leading the NJCAA in scoring at 27.6 points per game.

Receiving National Player of the Week honors cannot be obtained without first being named the FCSAA Region VIII Player of the Week. Both times El Moutaouakkil has been named FCSAA Region VIII Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week he has also been named the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Player of the Week. 

"We are very happy for Mo, he's worked extremely hard and he certainly deserves the accolades that he is receiving," said Coach Bill Morosco. "But this is a team sport and all individual awards are really team awards because he doesn't get this honor if we don't win both games last week and it takes everyone doing their part to win in this league, so I want to make sure every player on the team knows they had some part in helping their teammate earn this award."
